About GORDON OAKS

13. How do I get on the waiting list?
XXXYou are invited to place your name on our waiting list at your convenience. We request a $300 deposit for inclusion on the Independent Living Apartment list. That amount is applied to your security deposit when an apartment becomes available. A $300 deposit is also required to reserve a particular room in the Assisted Living Facility and the Healthcare Center. That deposit is deducted from the amount due at move-in.

14. Are accommodations available for rental on a short-term basis?

15. Can I stay in any of the units to "preview" the facilities and services?
XXXWith respect to the Assisted Living Facility, yes. We invite interested persons to spend a day, a night, a weekend, or a week to preview our facilities and services. Arrangements should be made prior to the anticipated preview, and all medical information is required, even for a preview or short stay.
XXXWith respect to the Independent Living Apartments, we are not able to offer overnight stays. Regardless of which facility you are interested in, we will, of course, be glad to give you a complete tour of the entire campus or any particular unit at your convenience.

16. Who is responsible for maintenance?
XXXManagement of Gordon Oaks Retirement Community is responsible for all major repairs and maintenance on the campus.

17. What type of activities are offered?
XXXApproximately 300 activities are offered each month, all planned by our recreational therapist, and structured to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of the residents in each level of care. Outings may include trips to local shopping malls and grocery stores, movies, sporting events, arts and crafts exhibits, area events such as Mardi Gras parades, or dinner at local restaurants—just to name a few.
XXXThere are also a number of social, spiritual, and recreational activities held on campus. These include religious services, exercise classes, aquatics and swimming, visits by special guests (which have included, in recent years, the Junior Miss contestants), picnics, and celebrations for special occasions throughout the year.

19. What transportation does Gordon Oaks provide?
XXXTransportation is provided without charge on a scheduled basis to local shopping malls and grocery stores, local cultural and recreational events, and doctor's appointments.

20. Do you have church services on campus or transportation to local churches?
XXXWe have just completed a lovely and serene chapel in the Healthcare Center for those residents who are unable or do not wish to leave the campus. We coordinate services with several area churches, and a number of our residents utilize transportation offered by local churches to attend services.
